Nestled on the edge of a funnel-shaped valley in a picturesque hamlet called Nathuakhan and accessible only by a leisurely ten-minute stroll down an idyllic village path shaded by a lush canopy of oak trees, Hushstay x Vayu is a serene 05 Bedroom retreat that offers the rare chance to slow-down and 'breathe'.
Cradled by the gorgeous hills of Kumaon, at just 45 km from the popular hill town of Nainital, this immersive mountain home built almost entirely of stone and seasoned wood is the perfect place to indulge yourself in a moment of bliss and serenity.

THE SPACE
The design and architecture of Hushstay x Vayu puts the four natural elements of Earth, Fire, Water and Air at its core. By virtue of being located on the mouth of an expansive valley, it is always breezy and wind-swept.
The entire retreat sits over almost an acre of land. It takes up less than one-tenth of the space leaving the remaining part of the land to a variety of native trees like oak, rhododendron, deodar, winter-cherry and innumerable fruiting trees such as apple, peach, apricot and walnut. Most of the organic, seasonal vegetables are also grown on the estate.
Mornings usually see a dollop of sunshine here while afternoons could witness a bit of drama as the clouds come shrouding the sun.
The living room, bedrooms & attic have large glass windows which allow for plenty of sunlight to stream in through the day and make for the most astonishing moon-lit nights. The wooden floors, soft rugs and plush beddings, all elevate an easy-going ambience.
A brief stroll down from the cottage is The Deck - the perfect place to find your quietude. At an elevation of almost 20 feet from the ground, this wooden deck at the land’s end literally leaves you with the surreal joy of flying over the valley.
The staff yearns to make the guests feel special. Besides the mouth-watering dishes on the menu, a barbecue soirée can also be setup at an additional cost and on prior intimation.
THE ROOMS
Partly hidden by trees and the main pathway, a small flight of steps leads to the main building. The house opens into a cosy living room on the ground floor, with a kitchen and dining space. The hosts have added vibrant personal touches and plenty of nooks and corners to unwind with a book or watch birds from the villa’s large glass windows.
There are five bedrooms here, all of which offer Wi-Fi connectivity. While four rooms have king-size beds and attached bathrooms, one room has a single bed and an attached washroom.
There is one bedroom on the ground floor while there are three bedrooms on the first floor out of which two have an attached balcony where you can sip your morning coffee while taking in the glorious views of the lush valley.

A full breakfast is included in the tariff.

Meals are prepared by our in-house chef and are made of delectable homemade local cuisine. We are happy to curate a traditional ‘Kumaoni’ fare on request. Meals mostly comprise a wide array of evergreen, Indian dishes that are familiar to the palate and also a limited selection of Chinese and Continental fare.

A barbecue soirée can be organised at an additional cost and on prior intimation.

A menu is shared upon booking confirmation. We request all our guests inform the staff about their meal preferences well in advance.

Nearest Railway Station (Kathgodam) - 65 kms / 02 hrs
Nearest Airport (Pantnagar) - 95 kms / 03 hrs
Nainital - 45 kms / 1.5 hrs
Mukteshwar - 20 kms / 40 mins
Almora - 35 kms ahead / 1 hr

As with all great places, getting to this paradise-of-a-location requires a beautiful 10 minutes moderate walk through a scenic forest path. Our staff will receive you there, assist you with parking and help you out with your luggage.

We have 8 dogs of our own and they make us who we are. They are a part of our family and are usually very happy to see guests who give them affection. However, we do not allow guests to bring in their pets since we have dogs of our own and that could pose several challenges.

We follow a strict no-smoking policy inside the house. You may ask the caretaker for an ashtray and smoke outside the house if you need to.

Sustainable Travel: We do not provide mineral water bottles or aerated drinks and encourage our guests to avoid or take back their plastic garbage. Clean drinking water in bottles is provided.

Water: At Vayu, we've tried our best to preserve the natural fauna, native trees, and plants. Water is gold! We recycle our grey water and harvest rainwater. Guests are requested to use water judiciously and ensure that there aren’t any leaks or taps dripping. If you do notice something, please let the staff know immediately. We do not have showers in our bathrooms.

This place is offered exclusively to only one group at a time, the price varies depending on the number of guests. Please select the exact number of guests while booking.

Rooms are offered on double occupancy up until 08 guests and other rooms are locked. We will offer an extra bed/mattress if you are more than 08 guests and can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests only.

Electricity: Electricity is usually not a problem, however, being at an offbeat location, if there is an unprecedented power outage, we have inverters as power backup to keep the lights and some power points running. This might also offer you an opportunity to switch off and gaze at the starry night sky. We promise you will not regret it.

Please note that like any other home in the mountains, we do not have an air conditioner at the property. Vayu has been designed in such a way that there is proper wind circulation if the windows are opened in the afternoon. Besides, we also have ceiling fans if you feel the need for the same.

There are additional charges for Bonfire/ Fireplace to be paid at the property.

We can organise separate accommodation for drivers or male house-helps. Please inform us at the time of booking. Charges are additional.

Outside guests are not allowed during the stay. The property is only accessible to guests who have booked with us.

AROUND HUSHSTAY X VAYU
An intrinsic part of the Vayu Experience is about enjoying the silence and soaking in the grandeur of the mountains that embrace us. It is also about spending time exploring nature and culture.
A typical day is all about waking up to a golden sunrise punctuated with bird-songs and chatter followed by some Yoga on the deck. Azure blue skies make it perfect for reading or taking a relaxed walk through our estate or down to the riverside for a picnic.
And if you'd just like to stay inside, carry your favourite book and pick your favourite spot or choose from the many board and card games that we have at the property.
But most of all it is the whiff of vayu (wind) you catch watching the sunset over a cup of tea, that does most justice to this place.
