Tucked away in the serene village of Naurangpur, Hushstay x Walden Living sits at the foothills of the Shivaliks, just an hour’s drive from Chandigarh. The journey takes you through the quintessential Punjab countryside—past lush fields, tree-lined roads, and charming pinds (villages) where life moves to the rhythm of the land. The landscape, dotted with narrow streams and rolling hills, provides a peaceful backdrop to a place crafted for relaxation and renewal.

THE SPACE
Inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, this serene farm-stay retreat on the border of Punjab and Himachal offers a perfect harmony of nature, sustainability, and minimalism. At Hushstay x Walden Living, the space reflects a philosophy of slow living, wellness, and deep connection with the earth. Surrounded by verdant farmland, the property is built using sustainable practices, with each structure designed to harmonize with its environment.
The four individual cottages are hidden in the vast farmland with a forested backdrop. Two larger "Suite Cottages" feature private plunge pools, while two smaller, cosier "Secluded Cottages" have intimate porches overlooking the estate. All structures, seamlessly blend with their surroundings, adapting to seasonal changes. Mud walls, made using the "Rammed Earth" technique serve to insulate you during winter months while keeping you cool and refreshed throughout the summer. The floor-to-ceiling large glass walls invite the outdoors into the cottages and living spaces, ensuring an abundance of natural light and blurring the boundary between nature and shelter.
At the heart of Walden Living is the common living area, a warm and inviting space where meals are served, and guests can gather. The library here is stocked with books on subjects such as mindfulness and healthy living offering a perfect spot to pause and reflect. Meals can also be enjoyed outdoors, overlooking the lush farm, with produce harvested just before it reaches the table. Outside, a telescope awaits for stargazing, making the evenings as enriching as the days.

Designed to harmonize with nature, all of the 04 one-bedroom cottages at Hushstay x Walden Living embrace simplicity and craftsmanship, offering a seamless blend of comfort and the outdoors. From the linen to the wall décor, everything has been tastefully handpicked and curated to showcase traditional artisans and emerging talent. The design principles prioritize energy efficiency, utilizing locally sourced materials like mud and sheesham wood to minimize fuel consumption and reduce environmental impact. Each cottage’s architecture is optimized to harness natural light and ventilation, with east-facing windows that welcome the refreshing purvai winds and mud walls that provide natural insulation, keeping the spaces comfortably warm in winter and cool in summer.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING
Meals:

Only breakfast is included in the room tariff. Other meals can be ordered at INR 2000/- for Lunch + Dinner per person per day.

Meals are prepared by our in-house chef and are made of a delectable mix of North Indian, continental and Punjabi cuisines, made out of ingredients all freshly sourced and grown at the farm or locally. Menu is generally fixed by the host basis availability, however, guest preferences/food allergies are taken into account to tweak the menu.

If you have any special requests, please make sure you inform the staff 24-48 hrs in advance so that it can be sourced in time.

All meals are served in the common cafe-cum-lounge of the property. Meals timings are:
Breakfast: 7-10 AM
Lunch: 12:30-2:30 PM

Walden Living is a serene and tranquil destination nestled in the picturesque village of Naurangpur. Located 14 kilometers from the highway, the route to Hushstay x Walden Living is an experience in itself, taking you through the captivating Punjab countryside, quaint villages, and lush forests.

This is not a hotel. It is a family-run permaculture farm. So there is no room service. Services of the staff are available until 10:00 PM

We love our furry friends but we are not pet-friendly. We have a friendly dog, named Baloo, at the property.

Sustainable Travel: We are very conscious about nature and we would like our guests to feel the same way. We try to reduce the use of single-use plastic as much as possible and hence, we do not provide cold drinks or bottled drinking water. Our drinking water comes from an RO and refillable water bottles are provided in each room. We provide only natural cleansers (in powdered form) in the bathrooms, so if you use any particular products, please carry them along.
Accommodation:

Ether, Aer, Terra and Aqua are 04 independent one-bedroom cottages that are spread out over the farm. Ether & Aer are "Suite" cottages while Terra & Aqua are cosier "Secluded" cottages. Each cottage has a double bed and space for an extra mattress. Please make sure you select the correct number of guests and cottage type while booking.

All 04 cottages are air-conditioned. Walden is an eco-retreat and has been designed in a way such that there is enough wind-circulation and the temperature is maintained throughout the seasons.

Electricity is usually not a problem, however, being at an offbeat location, if there is an unprecedented power outage, we have a Genset as power backup to keep the lights and some power points running. This might also offer you an opportunity to switch off and gaze at the starry night sky. We promise you will not regret it.

Nestled a few kilometers into the village, navigating to Walden was a breeze with the guidance provided by Google Maps and the Host. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the pristine layout and decor of the property. A unique contrast of untamed, organic surroundings with neat geometric concrete architecture, each element harmoniously silhouettes the other.
Inside, the structures exuded a natural coolness, enhanced by purposefully minimalist design, with artisanal elixirs tucked away everywhere. The absence of clocks and televisions let us embrace a slower, more mindful rhythm dictated by the Sun. We let our Host guide us, and he curated a memorable itinerary to our liking. My 5-year old son, loved every minute of it. We got to dip in a pool, cycle in the farm, ride tractors, try archery, hike a trail, play with animals.
